This past Saturday, Discovery hosted the Region 7-AAAAAAA Cross-Country Championships with Archer High School’s assistance at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville. The temperatures were warmer than usual for this time of year but the races were filled with excitement as teams vied for a spot in the GHSA State Championships on November 7th in Carrollton. For the Lady Titans, Sol Mendoza turned in the top individual performance by finishing 8th while Taylor Watkins finished 15th. The boys race was led by Archer and Norcross but the battle for 3rd and 4th was neck and neck between the Titans and Duluth as each position meant critical points in the team race. Ultimately, Duluth finished 3rd with 100 points and the Titans were edged out into 4th with 105 points. Top finishers were Jorge Patino in 12th and Alex Cantero in 19th. The boys team will travel to Carrollton High School and compete at 11 AM on Saturday, November 7th. They become the first boys team in school history outside of basketball to qualify as a team for state competition.
