On behalf of our principal, Marci Sledge and Athletic Director- Chris Hall, Discovery High School is proud to announce the hiring of Mr. Wesley Etienne to lead the Cross Country programs and serve as the Head Girls Track coach.  He comes to Discovery after spending the past 8 years at Clarkston High School in Dekalb County.  He took over the Angora’s Cross Country program in 2012 and quickly led them to a runner up finish in 2013 followed by back-to-back-to-back State Championships from 2014-2016.  His teams won 7 consecutive Region titles from 2013-2019.  Coach Etienne will be teaching Health & Physical Education and is optomistic for the growth and success of our Cross Country and Track & Field programs.   ” I want to continue to engineer the future by investing in our student-athletes in the same manner that people invested in myself”  Coach Etienne.    “After speaking with Coach Etienne during the interview process it was apparent that his energy and passion for molding kids into the future leaders of our country would be a great fit for Discovery and GCPS. He brings an impressive resume of on the field success coupled with a track record of getting kids to be academically successful and move on to college”  Chris Hall- Athletic Director & Assistant Principal.

We are thankful for the past couple of years that Ms. Jess Ursprung led our program including our first ever state qualifier and many new personal records and school records from our distance team.  Her hard work and passion for the sport made a difference.

Several feature articles were written about Coach Etienne’s teams prowess while at Clarkston including a feature by ESPN.
