Coed Varsity Tennis · Winter Tennis is Back with a WIN!

What a night for Disco Tennis!  Last week we went from lovely 70 degree weather to a winter evening tennis match of high of 32 with wind.  Our girls varsity team pulled out a great win against Central Gwinnett.  They dominated and won 4 courts to 1.  Single 1- Uyen Tran rolled through with a tough first set win of 6-4 and closed out with a second set of 6-0.  S3- Sonia Maldonado was the close out of the night for our lady titans. She played under the lights and won 6-2, 6-0. D1- Isabel Tavera & Rossie Estrella had a great start to their first set 6-2 and then cleaned up in the second 6-0. D2- Tran Bui & Cielo Munoz had a quick first set win 6-0 and then finished it up with a second set of 6-3.

The Boys Varsity team won 3 courts to 2 including an incredible 2D match. Singles 1- David Do clean up pretty nicely with his “1-2” punch (serve & put away / return & volley) to win his match. 6-3, 6-4 He managed to finish out the second set with out pushing it to a 3rd. D1- Jalen Wright  & Devin Phlong had a very interesting match of “tennis exceptions” tonight. Every odd little rule in tennis was used this evening. Including a ball that bounce on our side with enough spin to then bounce back on the opponents side to win us the point. They pulled out the first set with a 6-1 lead going into the second set. The second set gave them a few bizarre hiccups but, they pulled out the win 6-4. The match of the evening was D2- Chris Johnson & Danny Gutierrez. They won a nail-bitter of a first set in a tie breaker. Throughout the whole first set, they were dead even. The tiebreaker was the decision maker. Being down 2-4 in the tiebreaker, they came back to win it 7-4 and they took the first set. This match was number 2, of the evening, of weird rules. Including another ball that bounce on our side with enough spin to then bounce back on the opponents side to win us the point and the “breaker.”
The second set went neck and neck until the end where we pulled out an amazing win of 7-5.
Awesome matches tonight for both teams!
